Strengthening India’s Tank Fleet with Future-Ready Combat Vehicles
Among the major approvals is the procurement of Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) for the Indian Army. These FRCVs are set to replace aging main battle tanks, boasting advanced features such as superior mobility, all-terrain capability, multi-layered protection, precision firepower, and real-time situational awareness. This upgrade is crucial to modernizing India's armoured fleet, enhancing both defense capabilities and combat readiness.
Upgrading Air Defence Capabilities
The DAC also approved the acquisition of Air Defence Fire Control Radars. These cutting-edge radars are designed to detect and track aerial targets, providing real-time firing solutions. Additionally, the council sanctioned the procurement of Forward Repair Team (Tracked) equipment, which has cross-country mobility and can perform repairs on-site during mechanized operations. This advanced equipment, developed by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited, will be used by both mechanized infantry battalions and armoured regiments, enhancing battlefield efficiency.

Enhancing Indian Coast Guard’s Operational Efficiency
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is also set for a major capability boost with three AoNs aimed at improving maritime surveillance, patrolling, and disaster relief. The approvals include the procurement of Dornier-228 aircraft, Next Generation Fast Patrol Vessels (NGFPVs) with enhanced operational capabilities in rough seas, and Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs), which offer advanced technology for long-range operations. These acquisitions will significantly bolster the ICG’s ability to secure India's maritime borders and respond swiftly to emergencies.
Honoring the Legacy of Late DG Rakesh Pal
During the meeting, a heartfelt tribute was paid to late Indian Coast Guard Director General Rakesh Pal, who passed away on August 18, 2024. Shri Rajnath Singh highlighted DG Pal’s invaluable contributions to the expansion and modernization of the ICG. A moment of silence was observed by the DAC in honor of his legacy, underscoring his lasting impact on India's coastal defense.

The DAC’s approval of these major acquisition proposals reflects the Indian government’s unwavering commitment to defense modernization and self-reliance. With nearly all acquisitions sourced indigenously, this move strengthens India’s defense capabilities, while fostering innovation and growth within the domestic defense industry. The modernization of combat vehicles, air defense systems, and the Indian Coast Guard’s maritime fleet marks a significant step forward in enhancing the nation’s overall security and operational readiness.
